  • You may be asking yourself…“Why is my pond losing water?”

If you can’t find any obvious leaks or cracks in your basin, evaporation may be the cause.

Evaporation is a common cause for water loss in pools, lagoons, lakes and other water bodies and is often difficult to control.

    How can evaporation be prevented?

Aquafilm Liquid Anti Evaporation Film and Water Surface Polish is a must-have for ponds, dams, lakes and more, where evaporation is causing water levels to decrease. This product is a unique silicon-based solution that spreads across the water’s surface. This forms a thin barrier which polishes the surface and reduces the rate of evaporation.

    How fast does water evaporate?

Each square meter of water surface can lose up to 8 liters every day, in warm conditions. Independent trials of Aquafilm have shown the product to decrease this evaporation by up to 50% – that’s a lot of water saved even in the short-term.

Aquafilm is certified by NSF International  as a safe application to drinking water reserves, swimming pools, irrigated water bodies and more.

  • What is the product perishability and can it survive the filtration process?

The perishability will last around 4-6 weeks, depending on your filter.

If your filter is an above surface filter/skimmer, we do not recommend that the product will be as successful as a below surface filter.

Is the product safe to use in water parks?

Yes, Aquafilm is perfectly safe to use in swimming/recreational water.

    How does evaporation work?

Evaporation turns liquid into vapour at the very surface of a water body which allows that water to enter the atmosphere. This is due to the sun heating the very surface of the water to boiling point.

Each time this event happens, more water is removed from the water source. Aquafilm reduces evaporation rates by around 50%. It works by providing a silicon based film across the surface of the water that acts as a guard to prevent evaporation from occurring. Use Aquafilm all year round to ensure you get the most out of your water!

Is it safe to use around fish and livestock?

Yes, Aquafilm is safe to use around fish, livestock and wildlife.

Does evaporation occur in cold temperatures?

Yes, cold water can evaporate. It just does this process much slower in colder temperatures. Water molecules are constantly moving and it is this constant movement that builds up energy that eventually causes water to evaporate.
