Combining Water Clarification and Evaporation Control in Farm Dams
Q. I’ve ordered Aquatic Clear Dam and Aqua Film for our farm dam. Can I use these at the same time, or should one be applied before the other?
ANSWER
When using Aquatic Clear Dam and Aqua Film together, it’s important to apply them in the correct sequence to ensure the best results.
Start by applying Aquatic Clear Dam first. This product works by binding and settling suspended particles in the water column, which helps clarify the water. For optimal performance, allow at least 72 hours, and up to 5 days, for Aquatic Clear Dam to fully take effect. During this period, the water may still appear slightly cloudy, but the flocculation process is actively working to aggregate and settle the particles to the bottom.
Once the water has cleared, you can then apply Aqua Film. Aqua Film forms a thin surface layer that helps reduce water evaporation and further improves water clarity. Applying it too early, while the water is still cloudy, can interfere with the flocculation process because Aquatic Clear Dam needs direct contact with the particles in the water column—not a surface film—to be effective.
If you are treating a larger dam or if the water has not fully cleared after 5 days, a second, light application of Aquatic Clear Dam may be beneficial. This ensures that any remaining suspended particles are removed before applying Aqua Film.
By following this sequence—Aquatic Clear Dam first, followed by Aqua Film—you maximise the effectiveness of both products, improve water clarity, and reduce evaporation, creating a healthier, more stable water environment for your farm.
