Treating Water Lilies in a Residential Dam with AQ200 + Wetting Agent

Q. What product wIs AQ200 + Wetting Agent suitable for the control of water lilies in a small residential dam? And is there a better time of year to treat?

ANSWER

Yes, AQ200 combined with the wetting agent is the correct product combination for treating water lilies in a dam.

Why More Than One Treatment Is Often Needed

Water lilies can be very robust once they’re well established. If the plants in your dam are mature, it’s realistic to expect that more than one treatment will be required to bring them fully under control.

Eeach application does its job cumulatively:

– Every treatment progressively weakens the plants.

– Regrowth typically becomes less vigorous after each subsequent application.

– Several treatments over time are the normal path to full control.

When Is the Best Time to Treat?

Timing matters more than most people expect with aquatic weeds. The best window to apply treatment is from early spring through to late autumn.

In Victoria, this generally means October through to April. Outside of this window, water lilies become dormant over winter and don’t absorb the product very well, so treating during the colder months is not recommended.

There is a 10 Day witholding period when using AQ200, so the water cannot be used after treatment for 10 days.

How to Apply AQ200 for Best Results

Getting good coverage and timing on the day of application is just as important as the season:

– Spray directly onto the leaves, making sure they are thoroughly wetted.

– Choose a warm, calm day with minimal wind to avoid drift and ensure even coverage.

– Check the forecast, there should be no rain expected for at least 6-12 hours after application, giving the product time to be absorbed.

– Mid-morning to early afternoon is usually the best time of day to spray
