Aquatic Barley Straw Bales utilises the high carbon-to-nitrogen ratio of barley straw to reduce nitrogen and phosphorous levels in the water[1]. This natural process reduces the build-up of excess nutrients and helps to reduce contaminants in your water body.
Barley Straw Bales vs. Barley Straw Extract
Barley Straw Bales will take approximately 2 weeks to activate in the water body and begin taking effect. The bales will last up to 3 months before they need replacing, however, it is best practice to implement a new bale 3 weeks before you plan on removing the old bale. On the other hand, Barley Straw Extract will begin to work immediately. The difference is that Barley Straw Extract will need topping up at regular weekly to fortnightly intervals.
Barley Straw Extract is ideal to use when you apply your first bale, in the 2-3 weeks before the bale has taken effect.

Where and How to Use Barley Straw Bales for Optimal Results:
Apply Barley Straw is enclosed in a mesh bag with a float. Simply place the net bag into the water, as close as possible to well oxygenated areas or moving water. Allow the bale to float close to the water’s surface. Lightly shake in water every few weeks or when there is visual build-up on the mesh.

Pond that has green algae. Found that barley grass is the fix. Seems to the 2 weeks to commence activity and around 4 weeks to clear the algae. Will see how it works out (it's only been 2 weeks so far and supplier asked for feedback)
