What comes in the kit?

Single Air Pro Compressor units will house between 1-3 diffuser pods. Double Air Pro Compressor units will house between 1-6 diffuser pods.

Why is aeration important?

Simply put, water with low oxygen saturation can be a breeding ground for harmful bacteria and can create a toxic environment where materials don’t break down properly. Without aeration of your water, oxygen particles may be suspended from reaching the entire water column. This can cause unstable conditions and a host of problems from foul smells to dead fish and other issues. What’s more, is that bodies of water can develop what we call ‘stratification’ over time. This is when warm, oxygenated water on the surface is separated from cold, deoxygenated water closer to the bottom. This can cause harmful toxic build-up in the bottom of your lake, pond or dam and create bad smells, toxicity and an overall unsavoury environment for humans and animals alike. Our lake bed aeration systems offer a simple and ready-to-install solution to keep your waterways rich in oxygen and free of any toxic-buildup. Each diffuser will service up to 3,035m2. The AirPro series can aerate any size of water body and is capable of running between 1 to 6 diffusers per system. The AirPro professional series features a powder-coated aluminium enclosure with a LIFETIME WARRANTY against corrosion in freshwater applications.

WHY IS AERATION IMPORTANT? Over time water ways can develop stratification which is a separation of the warmer top layer of water and the colder deeper layers. Whilst the top layer receives oxygen from the air and supports marine life, the bottom layer loses oxygen through anaerobic breakdown of organic matter which can result in foul smells, fish kills, poor clarity, aquatic weed and algal growth. By adding aeration, you can eliminate unwanted odours, promote beneficial bacteria growth, reduce aquatic weeds and algae and improve water clarity.   WHAT IS LAKE BED AERATION? By introducing oxygen into the deep water layer organic matter can be broken down aerobically reducing toxic gases and promoting beneficial bacteria inhibiting growth of algae and weeds as they are starved for a food source.

What is Thermal Stratification?

Thermal stratification is the layering of warmer, oxygen rich water near the surface on top of cooler, oxygen deprived water towards the bottom. The transition between these layers is called the thermocline. The differences in water density at the thermocline prevents the water from mixing. Our Aerators use diffusers to pump air through the diffuser membranes. This air then makes its way to the pond surface in the form of millions of tiny bubbles. As these bubbles travel upward through the layers of thermal stratification they entrain water with them. This water is carried to the surface where it becomes naturally oxygenated, thus aerating the waterbody.

What are some benefits of aeration?

By aerating and circulating from the pond bottom up, the toxic gasses previously trapped under the thermocline can escape, thereby providing a balanced habitat for aquatic life. The aeration also creates aerobic conditions near the pond bottom where microbial processes can naturally break down nutrients which would otherwise be used in the production of noxious aquatic weeds and algae. Lake bed aeration systems are the most efficient and cost effective way to aerate water bodies.
